New data logger software IPEmotion RT supports Windows measurement software and Linux data loggers with full range of functions

IPETRONIK will present its groundbreaking new data logger software IPEmotion RT (Real Time). For the first time, data logger software and PC-based measurement software use the same source code platform. Based on the well-proven Windows PC measurement data acquisition software IPEmotion, IPEmotion RT is the first OS-independent software supporting LINUX 64-bit systems. The shared platform allows our customers to use IPEmotion on their Windows PCs as well as the LINUX-based data logger series. In addition to that, the innovative multilayer architecture offers many advantages regarding functionality, development time, and quality management.

Repeatable measurement results for stationary and mobile applications
New functions will now only have to be developed once in order to be available to Windows and LINUX operating systems. A unified concept of operations ensures that the same functions can be executed on different platforms and that measurement configurations and data formats can be exchanged. This provides identical and repeatable measurement results, which is especially useful for measurement tasks on the test bench and mobile applications like road tests.

PlugIn concept to integrate further development resources
The IPEmotion plugIn concept has also been applied to IPEmotion RT. The open plugIn interface technology allows the integration of further development resources by giving users as well as external developers the possibility to write their own plugIns. Linux offers various driver libraries that facilitate the integration of measurement systems and protocols.
Furthermore, the data logger licensing will be much easier. The licenses can be activated by entering a key – no internet connection necessary. The extensive basic package includes measurement inputs/interfaces and basic functions, such as OBD, traffic, web server display, CANdb measurement/storage.

High-performance interfaces for efficient import/export
The embedded Linux platform as real-time application guarantees synchronous data storage in a 64 bit time stamp format with a resolution of one nanosecond. The double storage medium architecture provides high storage security – even for hard shutdowns – by storing the raw data in the Linux data format. The secondary data readable by Windows (ZIPRT format) can be exported via a network drive for further analysis.
Additionally, IPEmotion RT offers an efficient gateway interface between measurement PC and data logger. With the Ethernet/WiFi gateway operation, all measurement data are securely stored on the logger and can be viewed via the IPEmotion RT.UI desktop. This includes data streams of USB and network cameras as well as CAN, LIN, or FlexRay bus traffic data. The transmission of all online data allows the user to check the measurement task configuration and verify whether all inputs are sending data. The gateway supports several XCP slaves with individually configurable DAQ lists to export A2L description files and integrate the logger into third-party software (e.g. ETAS or Vector).

IPETRONIK develops compact data logger for large-volume fleet testing

With µCROS SL, IPETRONIK introduces a compact data logger developed for large-volume fleet testing. The device is equipped with four CAN HS measurement inputs and a compact casing. Thanks to its hardware layout and the high functionality, the µCROS SL is an efficient and economic data logger meeting all the requirements of large-volume field testing. It can be used to monitor specific networks and ECUs.

The compact size with a volume of 780 cm³ is ensured by a 32 PIN multiplug. Due to the casing design, the logger can be mounted into the vehicle without impeding the driver. It has a storage capacity of up to 500 GB SSD for large data volumes and is equipped with an integrated dual WLAN module that automatically switches between 2.4 and 5 GHz transfer frequency band (depending on access point requirement). The innovative 3.75 UMTS/HSPA modem guarantees worldwide coverage and reaches maximum upload data rates so that the measurement data can be transferred to the IPEcloud for further analysis in no time at all. In addition to the four CAN inputs, two analog inputs for up to 40 volt and three digital IOs are available, obviating the need for additional analog modules in order to monitor further voltages (e.g. the state of charge of the battery) with the logger. For the vehicle positioning, the logger is equipped with a 5 Hz GPS sensor supporting the satellite systems BeiDou, Glonass, and GPS. The integrated multifunction antenna is connected to the logger with four SNA connectors and combines GPS, WiFi, and modem. The µCROS SL can be configured via the IPEmotion CAETEC plugIn so that IPEmotion users do not need a new software platform or additional training.

IPETRONIK develops innovative cross-platform driver display system for real-time data visualization

IPETRONIK’s wireless data logger display is a driver display system with cross-platform technology for internet browser, Android, and iOS devices, making three different display platforms available for the visualization of online measurement data for the first time. The HTML5-based system communicates with the latest Linux-based data logger software IPEmotion RT. Thanks to the new technology, the measurement data can be visualized on any end device in real time, meeting all display requirements. In addition to that, the app’s range of functions has been extended and its usability and design have been improved.

The platform-independent data logger display offers trigger and control functions from the mobile end device to the logger and vice versa, allowing the user to display online measurement and system status data and exchange commands and functions with the logger (e.g. transferring measurement files to IPEcloud, running diagnostic tasks on control units, loading/executing new measurement configurations) at the same time. The cross-platform technology supports multiple displays so that several users can log on to a data logger from different locations at the same time, view data, and – depending on the defined parameters – execute control functions. By combining IoT technology with IPEcloud, the app makes it possible to view measurement data online, no matter where the data logger is located (as long as it is connected to the internet). The wireless data logger display can also receive video data to view and analyze vehicle performance as well as environment and road conditions in real time. The smart app supports a vehicle head unit integration for more safety and improved usability.

Convenient display configuration and innovative WiFi interface
The data logger display can be configured with IPEmotion RT.UI (desktop) or a mobile device, allowing the user to set up measurement tasks and display visualizations anywhere anytime. The configuration is stored on the logger and can be imported or displayed in the Android/iOS app with a connected mobile device or in the browser with the web server. During the cross-platform development, completely new WiFi modules providing parallel infrastructure and access point modes have been integrated in IPElog2 and IPEwifi V3. They enable the user to send measurement data via the WiFi interface while connecting a mobile end device to the data logger access point via a second WiFi network. This way, a test driver can for example send measurement data while keeping track of the measurement data display on their tablet or web interface.

Unique M-TDC thermomodule allows plugless contacting between measuring point and module

IPETRONIK will present its new M-TDC thermomodule. This device is equipped with a special contacting technology allowing the plugless upgrade of thermocouple measuring points. The sensor cable is directly inserted into the module, contacting and interlocking automatically. PT100 sensors within each analog input guarantee highly precise temperature measurements. With this patented thermocouple direct connect method (TDC), IPETRONIK facilitates the setup of thermocouple measuring points and helps customers improve their workflow.

The contact is established with a special needle adapter within the module. High connection forces guarantee uninterrupted contacting even under harsh conditions. The asymmetrical M-TDC cable cross-section assures reverse polarity protection. The cables are coated and insulated with a very durable and electrically insulating Teflon®-based material resistant to aggressive media. In addition to that, it is heat- and cold-resistant and can be used from -160°C up to +260°C. The new cable and contacting system also offers solutions for existing thermocouple sensors with subminiature thermoplugs. The M-TDC adapter connector developed for these plugs provides an automatic latching mechanism and establishes the connection to the M-TDC sensor cable with a needle contacting.

The M-TDC module meets all quality requirements (e.g. protection class IP65, shock and temperature resistance) and fits seamlessly into the IPETRONIK hard- and software infrastructure. Form and casing match the M2 family so that the M TDC module can be operated in any system chain. "Our patented contacting method revolutionizes thermocouple plug mounting and sensor connection“, says Felix Ottofülling, head of marketing. "The plugless contacting saves precious time and ensures a high level of security thanks to the asymmetrical shape for reverse polarity protection.“ The delivery of the module will start in quarter 4/2018. CAN FD satellite interface expands existing data logger system by four ISO CAN FD inputs

With the CAN FD satellite interface, IPETRONIK will introduce a 4-input CAN FD satellite unit for traffic and signal measurement as a response to the increasing use of CAN FD control units and networks in new on-board supply systems. By expanding existing IPETRONIK and CAETEC data loggers by four ISO CAN FD inputs, CAN FD bus networks can be measured. The CAN FD integration is achieved with a feature connection between satellite unit and data logger.

The CAN FD satellite interface supports the data logger softwares dataLOG, TESTdrive and IPEmotion RT and is compatible with the logger series ARCOS 1.5, IPElog2, and M-LOG V3. The satellite unit transfers data with a baud rate of up to 5 Mbaud and supports wake functions such as Wake on CAN (WoC) and NoMessageLost (NML), guaranteeing the storage of all messages from the very beginning. With the integrated GbE switch, several satellites can be cascaded in order to increase the number of CAN inputs. Power supply and data transfer are ensured by feature connection (ARCOS 1.5) or connection cables (IPElog2 and M-LOG V3). With a transfer rate of 1 GbE/s (IEEE 802.3), the unit can be connected to the logger via both Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet input.

With an IP 40 certified casing of 109 mm x 35 mm x 130 mm (w x h x d), the CAN FD satellite interface supports temperatures of -40 °C to +85 °C at a relative humidity of 5 to 95 %. 6 VDC to 36 VDC voltage supply are needed. The standard power input is 2.0 watt. The satellite unit can be configured with the softwares Phoenix or IPEmotion via the Ethernet interface. Two 15-pin connectors and a multi-socket connector are available.

Targeted parameter retrieval & guided measurements for metadata acquisition
The search function is freely configurable and supports all common data formats, such as IPEmotion IAD & ZIPRT, MDF4, DIAdem, and TESTdrive MEA. The user can search for all parameters (e.g. measurement file metadata, channel properties, names, descriptions, marker comments, units, data formats, or KeyValue pairs) within any period of time or display all measurement data which do not include a specific characteristic. The search parameters can be defined via an input mask with logical Boolean operators and saved as template.
The guided measurement allows the user to fully utilize the metadata search. All relevant measurement parameters can be added with the easy-to-use metadata input mask. The metadata can be entered by hand and updated before and after storage as well as used for the search since they are included in the measurement file.

System integration with XCP interface
By implementing an XCP slave, IPEmotion increases its integration potential. The support of the XCP protocol, which is used by many leading software platforms in the automotive industry, ensures the smooth transfer of IPEmotion measurement data to the ETAS, Vector, and NI software solutions. With XCPonUDP, IPEmotion can be integrated into large-scale measurement projects of other manufacturers. The configuration of the XCP interface is very easy. According to requirements, several XCP slave nodes with as many DAQ lists (with defined transfer rates) as necessary can be stored. For each XCP slave node, an A2L description file can be exported and then imported by the superordinate software

IPETRONIK offers measurement data logging software IPEmotion 2017 R3 with new functions for analysis operations, protocol and traffic measurement as well as for reading and writing TEDS sensors

With IPEmotion 2017 R3, IPETRONIK is offering an updated version of its measurement data logging software. In addition to practical optimised features, the most important innovations include a plug-in interface for analysis operations and extensions in protocol and traffic measurement on vehicle bus networks. To simplify sensor scaling, the TEDS editor software (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) has been extended with templates for writing calibration data to sensors.

In the new release, the plug-in concept for measurement hardware can also be used for analysis operations. IPEmotion thus now supports three plug-in interfaces for the areas of measurement/signals, online/offline instruments and analysis operations. The plug-in interface for analysis operations enables users to integrate their own evaluation algorithms and calculation rules into the standard user interface. This allows complex evaluations to be encapsulated in a single operation, the calculation integrated into the overall analysis sequence and automatically executed.

The extensions in the protocol and traffic measurement relate to the synchronisation of signal descriptions from different sources, which is particularly useful for measurements on vehicle bus networks. This is because at the moment in which the existing measurement task has to be synchronised with a new signal description, the synchronisation process compares the previous version with the current description file. This normally happens on message ID level, with the result that an existing channel will drop out of the synchronisation process if this is moved into a different message. However, if the check is performed on name level, the channel is always found, no matter which message it is assigned to. In addition, for traffic measurement and evaluation, the standard traffic BLF import format is available, allowing users to evaluate CAN, CAN-FD, FlexRay and traffic files offline via advanced filter functions.

The new templates implemented in the TEDS editor software for writing calibration data to sensors simplify the transfer of sensor scaling into the IPEmotion measurement configuration. Particularly for strain gauge sensors and accelerometers, a great deal of information is often required for the correct sensor parameterisation. If this information is stored in the sensor, it is immediately read out for sensor recognition and entered into the configuration. This reduces the susceptibility to errors and saves a great deal of time. Using the TEDS editor it is possible, via a compatible interface box, to write sensors with various templates with all the important calibration data such as scaling, feed, calibration date, validity, SN number, manufacturer, etc. IPEmotion thus offers the complete tool chain for the recognition and writing of TEDS sensors via the modules Sx-STG, Mx-STG2 6, Mx-SENS2 4 and M-SENS2.

At the Automotive Testing Expo Europe in Stuttgart, IPETRONIK is presenting an innovative dummy head for climatic/acoustic engineering. It allows climatic/acoustic tests to be conducted reproducibly in the vehicle – with an identical installation position. With the development of the IPEacoustic head, IPETRONIK is further extending its expertise in the field of vehicle climatic/acoustic engineering. This innovative dummy head, which has a wedge-shaped design, features a binaural microphone arrangement for aurally compensated noise recording as well as a third microphone in an acoustically neutral measuring position.

Airborne noise is usually measured with microphones without directional characteristics that can be placed anywhere in the room, the amplitude of the sound pressure being the essential measurement parameter for the description of a sound field. Since this parameter cannot represent all the important criteria of the human auditory perception, so-called binaural microphone arrangements have become established. With two microphones and a separating body similar to a human head, the recordings provide very authentic listening experiences when replayed with headphones. The IPEacoustic head combines both of these approaches by using an innovatively shaped separating body and a third microphone. The two lateral microphones provide the characteristic database of a separating body stereophony. The wedge profile of the head creates an additional, acoustically neutral measurement position to record the sound from the front and the sides extensively uninfluenced. One major advantage of this method is the synchronicity of the binaural and the neutral sound recording in one place.

All microphones can easily be replaced or detached for calibration. In this way the IPEacoustic head fits perfectly with with the frontend Mx-SENS2 4 and the software IPEmotion but also provides compatibility with all common acoustics measurement systems (using IEPE or 200 V microphones). With its torso and inclinable head, it facilitates a wide range of noise measurement tasks. In addition to that, a noise-free high performance PC may be integrated in the torso, supporting i.a. control listening, analysis, data storage, and export (e.g. via the software IPEmotion).

MIP-500 – intelligent mobile power station for data acquisition systems in the automotive sector
With the MIP-500, IPETRONIK is announcing a mobile power station with intelligent energy management for independent on-board supply of measurement systems in the automotive sector. The 12 V lead-fleece high-performance battery offers a capacity of 75 Ah and is used in all applications where it is necessary to ensure an independent supply for the measurement technology deployed. Accordingly, it is ideal for applications in both electric and hybrid vehicles as well as in conventional vehicles with a combustion engine.

IPEacoustic head – climatic/acoustic engineering for vehicles
With the development of the IPEacoustic head, IPETRONIK is further extending its expertise in the field of vehicle climatic/acoustic engineering. This innovative dummy head, which has a wedge-shaped design, features a binaural microphone arrangement for aurally compensated noise recording as well as a third microphone in an acoustically neutral measuring position. ½ inch microphones with IEPE or 200V power supply are used. The IPEacoustic head allows climatic/acoustic tests to be conducted reproducibly in the vehicle – with an identical installation position. The head provides space inside its torso for a noiseless high-performance PC for online measurement data processing with IPEmotion. The dummy head is compatible with standard acoustic measuring systems.

Solutions for e-mobility – measurements in the HV system up to 850 VDC / 900 A
HVshunt2 is a new, specially developed measuring system for safe HV measurement in fleet trials of electric and hybrid vehicles. The recording of voltages, currents and temperatures in the HV environment of vehicle batteries is a key measurement application. With the new HVshunt2 as a further development of the established HVshunt, the measuring range for current measurement up to +/-900 A has been extended via a current transformer with an accuracy of +/-0.2 %. Thanks to the pre-assembled customer-specific cables with HV connectors, the module facilitates toolless and safe integration into the HV on-board power supply, which in turn permits short periods for the instrumentation and disassembling of the test vehicle.

Multi-channel interface module – ETH gateway CLFD
With the new ETH gateway CLFD box, the company has a highly compact and multi-channel, modular interface module, whose 16 CAN high-speed inputs, two FlexRay, eight LIN channels can be connected to the IPEmotion measurement software. This gateway gives users a significant advantage in their practical work inside the vehicle. Where in the past various dual and quad CAN or LIN interfaces had to be attached to the PC via USB, there is now only one Ethernet connection to the application laptop. This allows alternating users to quickly and easily (via an RJ45 connector) access the on-board power supply and by importing corresponding description files (e.g. OBD, DBC, Autosar, A2L, Fibex) to perform multi-channel CAN, LIN, FlexRay traffic and signal-based measurements.

ARCOS 1.5 – Modular high-performance data logger for fleet trials
Thanks to its modular concept, high processing power, data storage capacity and reliability, the ARCOS 1.5 data logger system is the ideal solution for demanding tasks in vehicle fleet trials. The modular system architecture offers users a high degree of flexibility and investment protection, since the logger can be optimally adapted according to the particular measurement task. Thanks to the modular design with plug-in modules, it is possible to extend the number of bus interfaces for CAN, CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, ETH, MOST in line with demand. Accordingly, the system also logs large on-board power supply topologies with numerous bus networks and control units using the most important protocols such as CCP and XCP.

Test drives which for example require validation by assistance systems or aim at recording the behaviour and field of vision of the driver can be implemented using multiple USB cameras and up to eight IP cameras. The data are stored on CF cards and via SATA interfaces with a large memory depth of up to 1 TB in Raid 10. The wireless communication is implemented via a plug-in module with globally operating 3G modems, GPS, Glonass and Baidu position data acquisition and modular W-LAN modules with 2.4 GHz bandwidth. The absolute special feature of the ARCOS 1.5 hardware platform is the option of switching over the operating mode. For logger operation, Linux normally runs on the device as an operating system. Alternatively, it is possible – by swapping the removable storage medium – to operate the same hardware as Windows logger with the IPEmotion software as the application system for control units. With ARCOS 1.5, every customer is perfectly equipped also for catering to future measurement tasks with new requirements.

Accordingly, it is ideal for applications in both electric and hybrid vehicles as well as in conventional vehicles with a combustion engine. Particularly however for electric and hybrid vehicles it is necessary to ensure that the installed measurement technology does not affect the test vehicle's electrical system and its energy management. With the MIP-500, IPETRONIK has therefore developed a mobile power station that decouples the automotive on-board electrical network from the measurement technology power supply. It supports both the stationary AC charging mode (230 V mains supply) as well as the DC charging mode (on-board supply) of the built-in high-performance battery. The charge controller deployed allows the current used by the on-board supply for charging to be controlled in two stages. The electronics also prevent feedback from the 12 V lead-fleece high-performance battery to the vehicle's own battery. By evaluating CAN signals, the integral, programmable controller allows the DC charging mode to be enabled/disabled, such that it is possible to program for example that DC charging can only take place in a hybrid vehicle when the combustion engine is running. Thanks to the high charging current in AC mode, the power station is fully charged after a short charging time.

Further features include the control of charge current of vehicle battery, the programmable CAN interface for vehicle bus communication, the ruggedized design for automotive applications and the mounting kit for individual in-vehicle assembly. The power station specified in accordance with IP code 21 (ISO 20653 - 2013) measures 1000 mm x 300 mm x 350 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 50 kg. It has a working temperature range of –20 °C to +50 °C. It requires a voltage supply of 85 to 265 VAC and/or the 12 VDC on-board power supply. The power consumption is typically around 1020 W.

This innovative dummy head, which has a wedge-shaped design, features a binaural microphone arrangement for aurally compensated noise recording as well as a third microphone in an acoustically neutral measuring position. ½ inch microphones with IEPE or 200V power supply are used. The IPEacoustic head allows climatic/acoustic tests to be conducted reproducibly in the vehicle – with an identical installation position. The head provides space inside its torso for a noiseless high-performance PC for online measurement data processing with IPEmotion. The dummy head is compatible with standard acoustic measuring systems.

Solutions for e-mobility – measurements in the HV system up to 850 VDC / 900 A
HVshunt2 is a new, specially developed measuring system for safe HV measurement in fleet trials of electric and hybrid vehicles. The recording of voltages, currents and temperatures in the HV environment of vehicle batteries is a key measurement application. With the new HVshunt2 as a further development of the established HVshunt, the measuring range for current measurement up to +/-900 A has been extended via a current transformer with an accuracy of +/-0.2 %. Thanks to the pre-assembled customer-specific cables with HV connectors, the module facilitates toolless and safe integration into the HV on-board power supply, which in turn permits short periods for the instrumentation and disassembling of the test vehicle.

Multi-channel interface module – ETH gateway CLFD
With the new ETH gateway CLFD box, the company has a highly compact and multi-channel, modular interface module, whose 16 CAN high-speed inputs, two FlexRay, eight LIN channels can be connected to the IPEmotion measurement software. This gateway gives users a significant advantage in their practical work inside the vehicle. Where in the past various dual and quad CAN or LIN interfaces had to be attached to the PC via USB, there is now only one Ethernet connection to the application laptop. This allows alternating users to quickly and easily (via an RJ45 connector) access the on-board power supply and by importing corresponding description files (e.g. OBD, DBC, Autosar, A2L, Fibex) to perform multi-channel CAN, LIN, FlexRay traffic and signal-based measurements.

ARCOS 1.5 – Modular high-performance data logger for fleet trials
Thanks to its modular concept, high processing power, data storage capacity and reliability, the ARCOS 1.5 data logger system is the ideal solution for demanding tasks in vehicle fleet trials. The modular system architecture offers users a high degree of flexibility and investment protection, since the logger can be optimally adapted according to the particular measurement task. Thanks to the modular design with plug-in modules, it is possible to extend the number of bus interfaces for CAN, CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, ETH, MOST in line with demand. Accordingly, the system also logs large on-board power supply topologies with numerous bus networks and control units using the most important protocols such as CCP and XCP.

Test drives which for example require validation by assistance systems or aim at recording the behaviour and field of vision of the driver can be implemented using multiple USB cameras and up to eight IP cameras. The data are stored on CF cards and via SATA interfaces with a large memory depth of up to 1 TB in Raid 10. The wireless communication is implemented via a plug-in module with globally operating 3G modems, GPS, Glonass and Baidu position data acquisition and modular W-LAN modules with 2.4 GHz bandwidth. The absolute special feature of the ARCOS 1.5 hardware platform is the option of switching over the operating mode. For logger operation, Linux normally runs on the device as an operating system. Alternatively, it is possible – by swapping the removable storage medium – to operate the same hardware as Windows logger with the IPEmotion software as the application system for control units. With ARCOS 1.5, every customer is perfectly equipped also for catering to future measurement tasks with new requirements.

With the Mx-STG2 6, IPETRONIK is extending its X-LINK module series – comprising the Mx SENS2 8, Mx-SENS2 4 and Sx-STG – with a six-channel measurement module. This compact device has been designed for mobile measurement applications with high requirements in terms of reliability, flexibility and high-speed signal sampling rates and is ideally suited for applications used for determining operational stability (DMS).

It supports DMS sensors for measurement on 1/4, 1/2 and full bridges, and voltage measurement in the measurement ranges from ±0.01 V to ±1 V. The analogue inputs feature a 24-bit sigma delta AD converter and are voltage-stable up to ±100 V. Each input has its own adjustable, dual sensor excitation up to a maximum of ±5 V / ±45 mA. The XCP-on-Ethernet connection also presents a number of advantages compared to CAN-based modules: A large number of modules can for instance cater to multi-channel applications with more than 100 channels. What is more, the high channel data rates of up to 100 kHz are ideally suited for highly dynamic DMS tests. In addition, the Ethernet technology makes it possible to cover large distances between the measurement modules, which is particularly advantageous for structural testing on large components, such as on cranes, for example. The software integration comprises the integration into IPEmotion via the X-PlugIn V2.04 as well as the integration into INCA 7.1 and INCA 7.2. This is implemented via the IPEaddon INCA V05.07.

Furthermore, the Mx-STG2 6 offers useful additional functions such as offset adjust, shunt check for the plausibility check of the sensor, internal resistors for bridge completion selectable by software with 120, 350 and 1 kOhm in addition to an overcurrent detection facility for the sensor excitation. As an option, the module offers TEDS Class 2 support (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet). The line break detection of the measurement inputs can be activated via the software. All the measurement inputs, CAN bus, power supply and housing feature full galvanic isolation from one another. Status LEDs at each measurement input monitor correct channel allocation and indicate excess current during measurements.

The Mx-STG2 6 is designed for engine compartment applications. It has a large 213 mm x 45 mm x 62 mm (W x H x D) anodised aluminium housing offering IP 67 rated protection. The module works in a temperature range from –40 °C to +105 °C with a relative humidity from 5 to 95 %. It requires a voltage of 9 VDC to 36 VDC. If the voltage falls below six volts, the module is switched off. The power consumption is typically around 5.0 watts. By way of connection variants, seven and ten-pin Lemo sockets in addition to nine-pin SUB D sockets are available. The Mx-STG2 6 can be operated both as a stand-alone measurement module as well as together with additional modules of the X and M-series. This is possible thanks to a special fastening mechanism, which allows toolless module to module connection with other IPETRONIK devices.

Measurement data logging software IPEmotion 2017 R1 – vehicle acoustics, bus analysis and CAETEC hardware integration

Acoustics
The acoustic module developed for testing the vehicle acoustics has been extended to include new evaluation functions such as root-mean-square value, peak-to-peak, dbB and dbC. Furthermore, new analysis operations allow the overall level to be calculated as well as the configuration of order analysis and filters with adjustable bandwidth. In addition, direct audio output is possible via the Campbell diagram. This allows users to listen to the recorded measurement data instantly, which in turn makes judgement of the quality and any further analyses possible.

Bus and traffic analysis
The vehicle bus analysis can be performed online and offline with the Traffic Analyzer instrument. The filtering for specific CAN IDs or CAN ID ranges is particularly helpful for a practical application. The online measurement for CAN and CAN FD messages allows acceptance filters to be configured. Complex filter ranges can also be defined conveniently via DBC description files. FlexRay traffic can be converted into signals via Fibex and Autosar description files during online and offline traffic analysis. The filtering of FlexRay and LIN traffic messages is planned for the next release stage IPEmotion 2017 R2.

Integration of the CAETEC hardware
The first integration step with release 2017 R1 sees the product lines of IPETRONIK and CAETEC merging. With the new ETH gateway CLFD box, the company has a highly compact and multi-channel interface module, whose 16 CAN high-speed inputs, two FlexRay, eight LIN and four DIO channels can be connected to IPEmotion. An Ethernet connection to the PC permits – via corresponding description file imports (e.g. OBD, DBC, Aurosar, A2L, Fibex) – the implementation of multi-channel CAN, LIN, FlexRay traffic and signal-based measurements.

ARCOS 1.5 – modular data logger with Linux and Windows operating systems for IPEmotion
The system integration of the CAETEC and IPETRONIK product lines places special focus on the ARCOS 1.5 data logger with two operating systems. For classic logger operation, the system is configured with either a 32 or 64 bit Linux operating system and dataLog/Phoenix software. The MDF4 measurement data generated can be imported into IPEmotion and the IPEcloud and evaluated.

For applications that envisage measurements with gateway operation on a notebook, it is worthwhile installing the Windows operating system with IPEmotion. This allows test engineers to use all the plug-ins installed on the ARCOS and to view the corresponding online measurement data on their notebooks using the IPEmotion software. Besides CAN, LIN, FlexRay traffic and protocol measurement data, this also includes the data of integrated USB and IP cameras. Furthermore, the CLFD box is integrated into IPEmotion via the protocol plug-in so as to allow identical physical bus interfaces to be used in logger and gateway operation.

Mx-STG2 6 – extension of the X-LINK module series with six high-speed DMS inputs
With the Mx-STG2 6, the X-LINK module series now comprises a six-channel measurement module for applications designed to determine the operational stability (DMS). The new module extends the existing X-LINK module family Mx-SENS2 8, Mx-SENS2 4 and Sx-STG, which support sensors with electronic data sheets (TEDS). The XCP-on-Ethernet connection offers users a number of advantages compared with CAN-based modules. A large number of modules can for instance cater to multi-channel applications with more than 100 channels. What is more, the high channel sampling rates of up to 100 kHz are ideally suited for highly dynamic DMS tests. Measurement data logging software IPEmotion 2016 R3 3 with optimised features in detail

In the latest release 2016 R3 of its measurement data logging software IPEmotion, IPETRONIK has optimised the detail of a number of functions. The most important upgrades are the optimised management of server licences, the signal conversion of traffic measurements, the import of driving profiles from measurement files, the support of multiplex DBC formats through the app export version 2.15 in addition to standardised NoValue handling for MDF4 import.

Server licence management
The new FlexNet server optimises the management of individual licensed products, such that a user only ever has to borrow one licence instead of numerous different licensed products. Working with FlexNet borrow licences provides a very useful method of optimising the licence costs and software usage rate within a user group. Users can now borrow just the particular licensed product they require for their application. If another licence is required, the licensed product currently on the PC is automatically booked back to the server.

Traffic-2-signal conversion
Traffic measurements can now be converted into signals with the aid of AUTOSAR description files. Since the online and offline CAN traffic analysis instrument can also supply information about signals, the corresponding description files have to be imported. In addition to DBC and Fibex description files, IPEmotion now also supports AUTOSAR files.

Driver assistance instrument
The driver assistance instrument allows driving profiles to be imported from measurement files. It is frequently used in climate wind tunnels in order to provide the driver with information about track guidance as well as speed and gear selection profiles. To generate their own profiles, users can, in addition to defining gradual profiles, import a track in a preferred data format such as IAD, MDF4, CSV etc. In practice, a reference file can receive data from a real test drive that have been recorded from other files or artificially generated in Excel/CSV. Advantages of the file-based profile import option are that it is possible to generate exceptionally smooth and twisty profiles and users can configure and install the profile extremely quickly.

App export, version 2.15
With the new app export version 2.15, IPEmotion supports multiplex signals in the DBC file. This includes such functions as speedo indicators, the configuration of the timespan in the Yt diagram of 30 seconds up to one hour, an icon for displaying the SD card memory usage in the measuring ribbon, the configuration of the decimal places, rotation of the displays through 180 degrees, manual rearrangement of the display page sequence and a MirrorLink head unit display.

MDF4 import – NoValue handling
The import settings for MDF4 support a checkbox for dedicated NoValue handling. MDF4 supports various NoValue entries, IPEmotion however only one. MDF4 import standardises NoValue handling by:

  • when importing MDF4 files with a NoValue entry, converting the NoValue data to zero and/or
  • when importing MDF4 files with multiple NoValue entries, ignoring all NoValues and marking these as VALID data.

Measurement data logging software IPEmotion 2016 R2 with new Profile Generator and Profile Instrument

IPETRONIK has now made the IPEmotion release 2016 R2 available to download. The new version features a Profile Generator for configuring drive and brake profiles in addition to a new Profile Instrument for the visual display of the profiles. What is more, extended import functions for description files with information on the expected CPU load and ECU memory usage plus the checking for duplicate channel names render the import process even more efficient. The synchronised measurement data analysis from multiple sources such as video, GPS and bus traffic affords a higher level of detail by relating the traffic messages to all the other data records.

The new features in detail:
In the Signals workspace, by supporting the XCP standard 1.2, information is now available on the expected CPU load and ECU memory usage when importing A2L description files. Furthermore, it is possible to activate a check for duplicate channel names. These are common in the large description files with numerous channels and cause problems during subsequent measurement data analyses. Consequently, the checking and correction facility is extremely useful for helping to prevent downstream analysis problems.

The Control module has been extended with a Profile Generator, which allows users to configure drive and brake profiles via a simple context menu. Tests on roller test benches and test tracks are often based on predefined profiles to facilitate reproducibility and comparability. The new Profile Instrument in the display area graphically depicts the sequence control of the Profile Generator for the driver. Besides the active profile, the instrument depicts the reference profile and the tolerance band. It also supports the horizontal and vertical display of the profiles. The analysis of measurement data from multiple sources such as video/audio signals, GPS and ECU signals has been extended with a bus traffic analysis feature. This allows traffic messages to be analysed in the Traffic Analyzer synchronously with other data. It is possible to display both the assigned measured values of a selected traffic message and the corresponding traffic message for a specific signal value with an active measurement cursor.

Further new features added include a new graphics library for LED instruments, along with new functions in the data manager, such as the depiction of channel properties for video recordings. When generating reports, it is now possible to define the report page as an individual template for other pages via copy and paste. Besides the choice of format, this also includes the layout of the associated header and footer and graphic elements. The scripting functions have been extended again and now also support IronPython, version 2.7.5. This is a .NET implementation of the open-source scripting language Python for the CLI standard (Common Language Infrastructure).

The companies were again assessed by Prof. Nikolaus Franke and his team from the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Vienna University of Economics and Business. They investigated more than 100 parameters in five evaluation categories: "Innovation-friendly senior management", "Innovation climate", "Innovative processes and organisation", "Innovation marketing/external orientation" and "Innovation success".

The TOP 100 are the pacesetters in their industries. This is proven by the findings of the evaluation: The companies include 97 national market leaders and 32 global market leaders. On average, their most recent figures show that they generated 40 percent of their revenue from market innovations and product improvements, which they brought to the market before their competitors. Their revenue growth was 28 percentage points above the respective industry average. All in all, the SMEs submitted 2,292 national and international patents over the past three years. This innovative strength is also reflected in job numbers: The TOP 100 are planning to recruit around 9,500 new employees in the next three years.

The mentor of the TOP 100, science writer and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar, is impressed by the quality of the companies and hopes that they will send out a signal: "The way in which the TOP 100 generate new ideas and develop them into pioneering products and services is truly remarkable, and I am delighted that the award makes these qualities visible. Efficient fleet management

At Automotive Testing Expo, a new type of artificial head with excellent directionality is to be presented. With the overall system comprising the software, measurement module and artificial head, it is possible to conduct climate acoustics tests in automotive development highly efficiently.

ETAS integration: IPEaddon INCA 5 – hardware integration in INCA 7.1 and 7.2
INCA from ETAS is a widely used software platform for calibrating ECUs with the focus on powertrain development. Using the new IPETRONIK driver IPEaddon INCA 5, it is possible to integrate measurement modules on the basis of CAN bus and XCPonETH protocols via the BOA and OHI interface from INCA and to configure them with ETAS software. This allows for example analogue measurement data to be recorded via the ETK interface with chronological synchronism to the measurement data from the ECU. Users benefit here from the X-LINK technology, since they can operate the X-devices on an Ethernet basis in conjunction with CAN measurement modules in a system chain.

Compact testing and loading unit for air-conditioning compressors
With IPEload, the IPEtec business division of IPETRONIK is presenting a compact testing and loading unit with active cooling for the efficient testing of the refrigerant compressors used in vehicle air conditioning units. The system is portable and does not require a cold water supply. The test bench will be shown in action via IPEmotion and PLC control terminal at the exhibition in conjunction with an electric compressor and full-scale test bench control unit. Using the calibrated microphones, acceleration and pressure sensors, it is possible to depict acoustic effects in relation to the compressor speed and load state in a highly effective manner.

With this takeover, the company from Baden-Baden is further expanding its activities in the field of data loggers, measurement modules and measurement software. The company CAETEC GmbH, headquartered in Olching, ranks amongst the automotive industry's leading development partners for vehicle testing and mobile measurement technology. INDUS Holding AG is acquiring 100% of the CAETEC company shares with immediate effect. At the same time, the company name, product lines, development site and all the employees are being retained, it is stated further.

IPETRONIK and CAETEC complement each other perfectly. IPETRONIK has a broad base with its four business divisions, the worldwide distribution network and its specialisation on data loggers and measurement technology in vehicle thermal management and powertrain technology. CAETEC focuses in turn on predevelopment projects and supports new, multi-channel bus and on-board power supply architectures, which for example are based on BroadR-Reach, Automotive Ethernet, FlexRay and CAN FD technology. This merger grants CAETEC products access to the worldwide IPETRONIK distribution network, thus creating new marketing potentials. At the same time, both companies dispose over a large number of high-performance loggers and modules.

However, it is not just the companies that benefit from this takeover, customers in particular also stand to benefit greatly from the merger. IPElog2 from IPETRONIK: High-performance data logger with audio/video and 18 bus inputs for automotive applications

With the IPElog2, IPETRONIK is presenting a high-performance data logger for test applications in the automotive and commercial vehicle sector, especially for efficient fleet management. The new data logger is designed around the basic concept and enclosure of the successful IPElog data logger, but has been further advanced in many details. This includes for example the audio input, which allows the test driver to record verbal comments and noises event driven – e.g. via the iMic microphone and trigger button – for subsequent measurement data analysis, the extension from 14 to 18 bus and measurement inputs as well as the USB 3.0 port for faster configuration updates and data downloads.

Two versions of the IPElog2 are available: The standard version features 10 CAN inputs, 4 of which can be switched between CAN High-Speed (HS) and CAN Low-Speed (LS – Fault Tolerant). In addition, the logger system features 6 LIN inputs in accordance with LIN 1.3 and 2.0 standards. The second version has 16 CAN inputs, also with HS and LS switchover capability, but no LIN inputs. All 10 and/or 16 CAN inputs support the WakeOnCAN and NoMessageLost (NML) functions. WakeOnCAN wakes the logger (via CAN bus activity), such that it automatically boots up from standby and switches to measuring mode. The associated NML function ensures that all the CAN messages from waking up the vehicle are saved signal-based as a CAN trace.

High-performance hardware
The data logger is based on a high-speed 1.33 GHz Atom E3805 dual-core processor, incorporates 2 GB RAM and uses the RTOS-32 real-time operating system with the TESTdrive operating software. The measurement data are recorded using the latest CFast technology with up to 64 GB data volume. These storage media have already proven themselves in the M-LOG V3 data logger.

To cater to the increasing requirements on Ethernet-based protocols and buses, the data logger supports two Gigabit Ethernet measurement inputs. These inputs allow XCPonEthernet protocols and automotive Ethernet networks to be integrated via BroadR-Reach media gateways. FlexRay signals and future FlexRay traffic are measured via the FlexRay-Extender. One of the two Gigabit Ethernet inputs takes the form of an X-LINK connector for measuring the high-speed measurement inputs of the X-device family with a sampling rate of up to 100 kHz and saving these in the logger. IP-based camera systems can also be integrated into the device in future via the Gigabit Ethernet inputs. As such, IPElog2 also caters to future requirements, such as the synchronous recording of control unit and environmental image data of multiple cameras (e.g. for validating driver assistance systems).

In addition, the logger also features an M-CAN-LEMO system socket for connecting IPETRONIK M-CAN measurement modules. The special feature of the M-CAN connection is that the bus termination can be set via a software switch. Users thus benefit from the fact that no additional M CAN termination connector or special M-CAN system cable is necessary for the bus termination. The modules are also supplied with power via this socket.

High-speed, secure remote data transmission
The IPElog2 supports the wireless transfer of measurement data both via an integrated Wi-Fi interface as per standard IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n and also via an LTE (4G) modem. The WLAN module is capable of setting up an access point itself for connecting terminal devices such as tablets. The modem is modular in design, allowing it to be adapted to the place of installation – North America, EMEA, APAC/South America. To allow the position data of the vehicle to be acquired synchronously with the measurement data, a GPS receiver plus gyro is built-in. This records the vehicle's rotations along all three axes. Thanks to its functions and properties, the logger is ideally suited for conducting endurance and fleet tests efficiently in conjunction with the IPEcloud web portal.

Robust aluminium casing
The data logger features a high-grade aluminium casing measuring 206.5 mm x 73 mm x 166.5 mm (W x H x D) in accordance with IP54 type of protection and weighs 1750 g. It has a working temperature range from –40 °C to +85 °C for a relative humidity of 5 to 95 %. A voltage of 9 VDC to 36 VDC is required for the power supply. The power consumption is typically around 10 W. The casing has no fans, hard drives or other mechanical wear parts. The CAN, LIN, ETH and 4 DIG I/O measurement inputs are completely galvanically isolated from each other.

The M-LOG V3 is a highly efficient data logger for validating and testing development vehicle fleets. It features up to twelve measurement inputs for CAN, LIN, Ethernet, FlexRay and a wide range of protocols such as XCP, CCP, OBD, J1939, etc. Thanks to COMgate V3, users can now control their vehicle fleets operating worldwide from afar. The new hardware module is compatible both in terms of its dimensions and also the software with existing M-LOG data logger fleets and older versions of the M-LOG operating system TESTdrive. This allows existing M-LOG customers to convert to the new COMgate V3 without exchanging the logger.

In addition to Wi-Fi, the COMgate V3 offers global modem support, which permits rapid and simple access to measurement data and measurement configuration updates. The modem features a mini-SIM card slot, can be equipped with modules and can – depending on the regional place of installation – be selected for North America, EMEA or APAC/South America. For Wi-Fi transmission, the standards IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n are covered. Web portal for smart monitoring of data logger fleets
On the basis of remote data transmission via Wi-Fi or modem, which is supported by all IPETRONIK data loggers, the IPEcloud offers various services for controlling a data logger fleet. These include the management of the incoming measurement data in addition to rapid status monitoring and remote updating of the logger configuration.

IPEdrive constitutes the central element of the web portal. IPEdrive manages the incoming measurement data and records measurement configurations for the data logger upload. In this data area, users will also find the min/max statistics files with compressed measurement data, which they can use to record the operating state of a vehicle and logger on the basis of IPEfleet.

IPEfleet supports users with the individual management of their data loggers and/or vehicle fleets in various projects. For example, loggers can be classified into various groups so as to depict organisational or functional units. It is also possible for multiple users to view various segments. A configuration menu allows users to define which parameters are to be monitored in the measurement data logged. Status monitoring then takes the form of a traffic light display (red/green). Optionally, the system files transmitted can be automatically processed and output in the form of a PDF report. GPS position recording makes it possible to display the route travelled and the current vehicle location in a map element. IPEmail is a mailbox for managing the logger e-mails and the alarm notifications created by the user. This allows users to be informed of specific system errors or deviations in the measurement data.

Acoustic measurements and analyses with IPEmotion 2016 and Mx-SENS2 4 module
The latest version of the IPEmotion measurement software now also facilitates the analysis of acoustic signals and vibrations with the Campbell diagram. The four-channel Mx-SENS2 4 measurement module serves as a corresponding hardware platform, which, thanks to its channel sampling rate of up to 100kHz, makes it ideally suited for capturing dynamic measurement signals, for example from ICP-fed microphones and acceleration sensors. Analogue measured variables, sound measurements and component vibrations can be recorded in IPEmotion synchronously with digital measured variables from the vehicle ECUs via CAN bus, FlexRay and LIN bus networks.

COMgate V3 – Fast, secure and convenient remote data transmission with the M-LOG V3
The highly efficient M-LOG V3 data logger is now available with the new COMgate V3 hardware module as an extension for wireless data transmission. The COMgate V3 permits extremely fast, secure and convenient remote data transmission with 4G and LTE speeds. The modem interface supports the modern standard IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n for Wi-Fi networks with data rates of up to 150 Mbps. What is more, upgrades are simple due to the module being compatible both with predecessor models of the COMgate and those of the M-LOG. Thanks to the second Gigabit Ethernet interface integrated in the COMgate V3, users now have the option of configuring the overall system comprising the data logger and COMgate conveniently via the IPEmotion software.

IPEcloud – Smart monitoring of data logger fleets
On the basis of remote data transmission, which is supported by all IPETRONIK data loggers, the IPEcloud extends the worldwide monitoring of data logger fleets during field trials. The IPEcloud package comprises the three basic modules IPEfleet, IPEdrive and IPEmail.

IPEfleet enables users by means of a freely configurable interface to define which parameters are to be monitored in the measurement data logged in order to view their status in the form of a traffic light display (red/yellow/green). The system files transmitted can be processed automatically and output in the form of a PDF report. IPEdrive is used for managing and editing the measurement data acquired and transmitted by the logger, whilst IPEmail is used for managing e-mail addresses in order to inform various users specifically of system errors or deviations in the measurement data.

Calibrate ECUs with INCA 7 and integrate measurement modules via X-LINK
INCA from ETAS is a widely used software platform for calibrating ECUs with the focus on powertrain development. Using the new IPETRONIK driver IPEaddon INCA 5, it is possible to integrate measurement modules on the basis of CAN bus and XCPonETH protocols via the BOA and OHI interface from INCA and configure them with ETAS software. This allows analogue measurement data to be recorded via the ETK interface for example with chronological synchronism to the measurement data from the ECU.

IPEmotion 2016 R1 offers users an advanced range of functions for the data analysis and measurement data logging of high-speed signals. It permits acoustic analyses on the basis of the Campbell diagram, evaluates the FlexRay traffic and optimises the filling of DAQ lists. In addition, the software features a colour grid instrument for depicting 2D classifications. IPEmotion 2016 R1 is compatible with Windows 10.

Acoustic analysis with Campbell diagram
In addition to the control and climate modules, IPEmotion 2016 R1 now also features a module for processing acoustic signals and vibrations. This acoustic module is available as an option in the Professional, Developer and Analysis editions. The four-channel 100 kHz measurement module Mx-SENS2-4, which is integrated via the associated X-PlugIn, serves as a hardware platform. The new acoustic module allows users to analyse large volumes of data from structure and air-borne sound vibrations using standard filter and evaluation functions such as db-A, db-C, linear, etc. (click here for the video) as well as the associated indicating instrument (click here for the video). The data is processed in the form of colour carpet diagrams such as the Campbell diagram. These diagrams allow the frequency spectra to be calculated via random reference variables, for example in order to establish a reference to the motor or compressor speed.

Key-value pairs – Integrated data traceability through to MDF4 export
For all users who place high requirements on data traceability, IPEmotion 2016 R1 presents an ideal solution thanks to the key-value pairs. These are supported by all IPETRONIK data loggers and significantly improve the traceability of data, since they combine measured values on channel level with all the relevant meta data. As a result, not only is the origin of the data fully transparent throughout the entire hierarchy of the data acquisition system, but also the complexity and hierarchy of file structures are simplified, which in turn greatly facilitates the post-processing (click here for the video). Customer-specific key-value pairs are stored on data logger level in the form of an XML file. These can be exported individually to the MDF4 format.

Optimise measurements on electronic control units
Also with regard to measurement data logging, the new version features useful extensions. To optimise fill level calculation, when importing A2L description files, it is possible to greatly simplify the filling of DAQ lists via the parameter setting of the ODT (Object Descriptor Table). Since IPEmotion 2016 R1 supports additional CAN import formats, users can now also import FIBEX description files via CAN interfaces in order to perform CANdb measurements. In terms of the analysis, IPEmotion 2016 R1 analyses the FlexRay traffic and depicts the results from 2D classifications (e.g. Rainflow) in a colour grid. To process the dynamic time raw data files with acoustic programs such as the PAK system from Müller BBM, IPEmotion offers the advanced ATFX data export facility, which also supports individual reference variables. Last but not least, audio signals from G.I.N microphones, based on the CAN traffic format, can be exported to WAV format in order to play back the audio recordings.

IPETRONIK extends its measuring module family of the Mx- and Sx-series with the Mx-SENS2 4, a X-LINK module for voltage measurements of up to ±100 V and ICP measurements. The four-channel analog measuring module with sensor supply combines high sampling rates of up to 100 kHz per channel with time-synchronic data acquisition and ICP-mode for piezoelectric sensors, such as acceleration / vibration and acoustic sensors. Optionally, TEDS sensor detection is supported.

„The Mx-SENS2 4 is a compact module for mobile measurement applications in the automotive sector with high demands on reliability, flexibility and fast signal sampling rates”, explains Harry Stoerzer, head of application and support at IPETRONIK. “It is the ideal solution for the high-precision data acquisition in combustion or electrical engines. For example for noise/vibration analysis to detect background noise and the transmission paths in the vehicle as well as special analysis on the engine, like the injection cycle of the nozzle or the pressure gradient in a cylinder.”

The four analog inputs cover ten measuring ranges with voltage of ±0,01 V up to ±100 V. The inputs are voltage proof up to ±500 V. Each input has its own adjustable sensor supply of up to ±15 V with up to ±60 mA. The integrated hardware filter is  a switchable butterworth filter of 8th order with 12 kHz cutoff frequency. The module supports channel sampling rates from 10 kHz up to 100 kHz. The data output stream runs with maximum 100 Mbit/s on Fast Ethernet via XCPonEthernet or via CAN-2.0B bus with up to 1 Mbit/s. The data format has a resolution of 16 Bit (Word format) or 32 Bit (DWord float). All measuring inputs, CAN bus, power supply and housing, are completely galvanically isolated from each other. Status LEDs on each data acquisition input inform about the correct channel allocation and display an overcurrent during the data acquisition process.

The Mx-SENS2 4 has an anodized aluminum housing of 106 mm x 60 mm x 62 mm (W x H x D) pursuant to protection type IP67. The module operates in the temperature range from -40°C up to +105°C with a relative humidity of 5 to 95 % in the wide voltage supply range of  9 to 36 VDC. If the voltage drops beneath 6 V, the module turns off. The power consumption is typically 4.2 Watt. The Mx-SENS2 4 can be used as an independent module as well as in connection with other modules of the Mx- and Sx-series. The configuration is made via a X-LINK Ethernet interface. All settings can comfortably be done with the Windows software IPEmotion. The module has a special attachment mechanism for the tool-less combination of modules.

IPETRONIK extends analysis functions of their data acquisition software IPEmotion

With the IPEmotion Release 2015 R3, IPETRONIK provides extensive enhancements in the field of data analysis. Now, the offline classification is also supporting the following 2D classification operations: From To Count, Transition Matrix, Rainflow, Sample Count and Time At Level. Furthermore, the analysis tool box was complemented by a new polar diagram, a classification table and an option for offline video synchronization. Additionally, the reporting includes new functions for creating different report pages and an extension of the scripting functions.

The latest analysis instruments: Classification table and polar diagram
For graphical analysis, a classification table and a new polar diagram are now available. The table is able to display the calculation results of the new 2D classification operations and allows further analysis. The polar diagram extends the analysis scope to applications, which are acquired not time-based but angle-based. Angle-based measurements are mainly performed to measure the ignition and injection behavior via the crankshaft rotation or to analyze vibrations at propellers or turbines. With the functional extensions, IPEmotion is now able to execute durability tests of certain components in a very efficient way.

New reporting functions
An individual template can be created for each report page during the report creation. This does not only include the selection of the format but also the structuring of the header and footer line. Furthermore, the scripting functions have also been extended, enabling the user to access the single value calculation results of the statistics analysis operation.

IPEconnect – Integrated display solution for data loggers
The IPEmotion Release 2015 R3 provides the user an integrated display system for measuring data visualization on a tablet. This system is based on the proven IPEhub2 technology. The IPEhub2 will be connected to the data logger via a connection cable, whereupon the device provides a WiFi access point for the tablet. In only one step the user can now configure the app display as well as the data logger via IPEmotion. In the following start of the app, the online measurement data visualization is already configured and operational. By its initial setup process and automatic connection the system offers the highest comfort for the user.

Plug & Measure with Sx-STG from IPETRONIK

To be able to respond rapidly on changing tasks in measurement technology, IPETRONIK supports the use of TEDS sensors (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) with a Lemo-2B-version of their multifunctional module Sx-STG. This under IEEE 1451.4 defined plug & measure standard contains among others information about the identification number of the sensor, the calibration and the supplier. It enables the flexible, faultless adjustment of the module on new sensor parameters. The Sx-STG detects e.g. IEEE-1451.4 Class 2 sensors (multi-wire connections, e.g. as bridge sensors) automatically when putting on and reads the sensor-specific data via the TEDS connection. It is a benefit for the user, that he does not have to enter the scaling data manually. Channel-specific settings such as operation mode, filter, excitation voltage, sampling rate etc. are performed comfortably with the measuring data acquisition software IPEmotion.

Sx-STG is a fast eight channel multi analog measuring module with sensor supply for various applications inside the car cabin. The compact module supports three different signals according to measuring input: voltage, IEPE (Integrated Electronics Piezo Electric) resp. ICP® (Integrated Circuit Piezoelectric) as well as  strain gage sensors. Eight analog inputs cover measuring ranges with voltages of ±0.01 V up to ±50 V. Each input has its own configurable sensor supply of ±15 V with up to ±45 mA. The measuring data output happens on Ethernet or on the CAN bus. The module has an anodized aluminum case in accordance with protection type IP54 and a size of 75 mm x 119 mm x 185 mm (W x H x D). It operates in a temperature range of -40 °C up to +85 °C. Sx-STG operates within a supply voltage range from 9 VDC up to 36 VDC. All measuring inputs, Ethernet/CAN and the module supply are completely galvanically isolated.

IPETRONIK extends offline data analysis operation of their data acquisition software IPEmotion

As of now, IPETRONIK provides the download of the IPEmotion Release 2015 R2 of their data acquisition software. The company extends the offline data analysis operation with the new version, which was introduced in IPEmotion 2015 R1. New functions are among others the triggered performance of operation sequences, new statistic operations for an easy calculation of common statistic values such as min, max, average value, RMS etc. and an operation for searching events, which are able to perform analyses event-oriented.

The analysis tool box provides a new 3D instrument, in which the user can upload CAD models to embed the data analysis graphically in the model as well. The 3D objects are based on STL files, which are generated by CAD programs. The 3D instrument is able to view graphical indicators like arrows, lines etc. in the 3D object.

The data analysis now supports the import of ASCII-CAN and CAN-FD traffic files. The ASCII files can be analyzed in IPEmotion and can also be converted into signals again with the matching CAN-DB description files. For simulating bus traffic measurements, the traffic files can be played again using the traffic generator.

In the field of measurement data acquisition, IPETRONIK has extended the CAN traffic bus analysis by a new instrument for the CAN traffic export – the “message generator”. The messages can be easily imported out of CAN-DB description files or also individually manually created. The instrument sends messages in defined cycle periods from milliseconds up to several seconds or event-triggered by the user. Using this instrument, the user is able to send messages specifically to his CAN network and perform simulations. Therefore, IPEmotion now provides the basic tools for CAN bus stimulation (polling) and CAN bus traffic analysis.

Moreover, in the field of measurement data acquisition, the import of description files such as DBC and A2L has been optimized. The user is now able to automatically select individual signals, messages and the sampling rate in the import process with a multi-column CSV import filter.

Compressor test bench for VDA validation tests
The latest compressor test benches from the IPEcomp series cover applications for refrigerant condensers, evaporators, compressors and expansion valves. They are developed for various fields of testing and measuring in the area of vehicle air conditioning such as comprehensive compressor tests, process visualizations, and component validations (VDA validation tests). Performance and efficiency testing of electrical and mechanical compressors and the related acquisition of all relevant physical values like temperature, pressure, speed, torque, voltage, and power are typical operations on the test benches. Furthermore, they can be used for oil management analysis, fast motion endurance and fatigue testing, vibration and pulsation (NVH) measurement, as well as COP determination. The test benches meet the high requirements of the automotive industry: They allow a high flexibility and repeatability of test steps at various load conditions. A quick compressor exchange along with integrated refrigerant recycling enables a high rate of test cycles. Additionally, user-defined settings, automated test sequences,and thermodynamic load profiles can be created and executed. Two different versions of IPEcomp are available (for the R134a/HFO-1234yf refrigerants as well as for the R744 refrigerant), but can also be ordered in a custom tailored version to fulfill customer specific requirements.

Load unit for refrigerant compressors
With IPEload, IPEtec offers a compact load unit for efficient testing of automotive A/C refrigerant compressors during the development process. The device enables extensive functional and validation tests. For example the simulation of load characteristics of a complete refrigerant circuit or the realistic and reproducable simulation of load characteristics under different thermodynamic conditions. In addition, the user-friendly devices of the IPEload series allow fast load changes along with precise adjustment possibilities. IPEload is available for CO2 systems as well as for fluorocarbon systems,both as a manual and an automatic operating version. Depending on the version, the load units provide a high pressure area from 8 to 28 bar (R134a), respectively from 80 to 140 bar (R744), as well as a low pressure range from 1,5 to 6 bar (R134a), respectively from 15 to 40 bar (R744).

Flushing air conditioning systems reliably
IPEflush is a cleaning device used to flush refrigerant circuits of HVAC systems. Remaining compressor oil and dirt particles are removed from the pipe system by a multi-phase cleaning procedure. After the refrigerant circuit has been recovered, the system is evacuated by a vacuum pump and the refrigerant fluid is recycled. The following flushing procedure with liquid refrigerant guarantees that approximately 99 % of the compressor oil residue will be extracted. The high flushing pressure of up to 12 bar even allows to clean complex structured refrigeration circuits from oil residue. Furthermore, IPEflush is well suited for oil management tests in the area of vehicle air conditioning. The cleaning system has an oil receiver with a volume of 300 ml and executes approximately 18 flushing cycles per hour. The volume flow rate is 42 litres per hour.

IPEmotion 2015 – Analysis component supports signal filtering
The IPEmotion Release 2015 is focused on data analysis and offers improved data post-processing functions. This includes processing sequences to link different operations in sequential order, calculation of FFTs by supporting a freely adjustable resolution, and mathematical calculations, logic operations and classifications. New filter functions are used to extract the original signal from a periodical signal, which is interfered by noise signals. Beside the type of  filter, the cut-off frequency and the filter order can be adjusted by the user.

IPEaddon INCA 5 – X-LINK-device driver for measurements with ETAS INCA up to 40 kHz
The newest release of the application driver IPEaddon INCA 5 supports the IPETRONIK X-LINK technology with an integrated configuration interface for M-CAN and X modules. It is suitable for all ETAS interface modules with an ETH connection as well as for all other interfaces supported by OHI drivers. With the M-LOG V3 the IPETRONIK division IPEmeasure offers the third generation of its proven data loggers with particularly high measurement requirements in the mobile data acquisition. The new version is characterized by maximum power resources for online calculation and data storage during stationary and mobile tests. It is based on the newest generation of the Intel Atom E620T processor and with 1024 Megabyte main memory (RAM) it provides a significant increase in performance, notably in complex applications when detailed configurations are used. With CFast the M-LOG V3 obtains a new removable storage medium with up to 64 Gigabyte data volume and a SATA port for fast access to the saved data. Another highlight of the configurable and upgradeable hardware design is the integrated speed option, which reduces the CPU load on the CAN card by preprocessing the measurement signals.

The data logger has a high quality and golden anodized aluminum housing with compact dimensions [158mm x 69mm x 102mm (W x H x D)]. It is manufactured in accordance to the protection standard IP54 and weighs only 850 gram. The M-Log V3 operates in the temperature range of -40 °C up to +85 °C at a relative humidity of 5 to 95%. Voltage of 9 VDC to 36 VDC is required for the power supply. A low power consumption of typically 9,0 W as well as no rotating parts like cooling fans or hard disks make the logger even more suitable for the automotive use.  All measuring inputs, power supply and the housing are completely galvanically isolated from each other. All connections are 100% compatible with the existing infrastructure by maintaining the standard plug connections. LAN/WLAN CAN interface with storage function
With the release of IPEmotion 2014 R3 and its related PlugIns IPETRONIK-CAN, CAN-Acquisition and CAN-Protocols, IPEhub2 users benefit from using the IPEhub2 as CAN card. Physical connection between PC and IPEhub2 is supported by LAN cable as well as by wireless LAN. IPEhub2 establishes its own access point as well as its own WLAN network via WLAN interface with included DHCP server functionality. Thus, each computer and tablet/smartphone can comfortably connect with the device and receive data. The data logging function for self-sufficient data storage on an SD card with up to 8 GB is just another advantage: It provides the possibility to import and analyze data directly from the device to IPEmotion via LAN/WLAN. The conversion of CAN traffic data of IPETRONIK modules is performed automatically via the related CAN description file (DBC).

Users will benefit from wireless data transfer e.g. in off highway applications in surroundings of construction and agricultural machinery, which do not allow data acquisition near the machinery and equipment due to hazards or lack of space, as well as in fleet tests for individual data visualization of the test vehicle using IPEmotion App. Therefore, road behavior, driving profile and important system data can be controlled easily and quickly.

New IPEmotion App
IPEmotion App Release 2.10 now also supports smartphones and provides the direct import of the IPEhub2 configuration, which means loading and restoring into the memory of the IPEhub2. Moreover, it is possible to save changes in the configuration to control limit values and to generate reports in PDF format.

Extended data export
With the data manager, the user is able to export acquisition data with additional functions, like data reduction, in which the sampling rate/number of acquisition data is reduced by a free selectable sampling rate. Freely adjustable sampling rates/numbers can be calculated and displayed as MIN, MAX or average values, which also contributes to data reduction. With the ZIP compressed export function in MDF4.1 format, the size of exported acquisition data can be reduced significantly.

M-THERMO2 HV provides high versatility by offering 4 inputs for safe temperature measurement on high voltage potentials. It can easily be integrated into M2 systems and features quick configuration and data analysis in IPEmotion and in IPETRONIK data loggers. Maximum personal protection is guaranteed by certified high-voltage thermocouples and cables. M-THERMO2 HV uses an enclosure of 106 mm x 73 mm x 60 mm in modern M2 design – performed under the terms of protection class IP65 and designed for direct application in the engine compartment. It operates in a temperature range of -40 °C to +105 °C. It requires 6 VDC to 36 VDC for power supply. The power consumption typically is under 0.9 W.

The temperature measuring range goes from -60 °C to +1370 °C and is digitalized per channel with a 24 bit analog/digital converter. The cold junction compensation takes place on the sockets of measurement inputs using RTDs (PT100 elements). The adjustment of the A/D measuring chain is performed with each measurement acquisition. In order to achieve greatest possible accuracy, the sensor characteristic curve is numerically interpolated through an intern compensation algorithm. Accuracy at 25 °C ambient temperature is specified with ±0.035 % of the full temperature measuring range.

The HV thermocouple module covers input voltage protection of ±50 VDC (indefinitely) and ±200 VDC (short-time). It supports channel sample rates of 1, 2, 5 and 10 minutes as well as 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Hz. In CAT I applications the permitted input voltage is 846 VDC, in CAT II applications it is 500 VAC at 50 Hz. All the measurement inputs, CAN bus, power supply and enclosure are completely galvanically isolated up to isolation voltage of 846 VDC. Status LEDs on each measurement input inform about correct channel allocation or view sensor breaks in measurement operations. The data output occurs via CAN bus in accordance to ISO 11898-2 with up to 1 Mbit/s. The measuring data has a 2 byte (16 bit) resolution with or without sign. The HV thermocouple module is available with two different connector types (Lemo sockets or thermosensor sockets). A separate HV safety socket is available for each input. A special fixing technique provides a combination of modules without any tools.

Major extensions apply to CAN traffic analysis and CAN traffic simulation. Further, it is now possible to edit data records and new export parameters such as parameters for V-TAB scaling are now available. The entire menu navigation for the IPEmotion App export has been enhanced in the new R2 version.

Analysis and simulation of CAN bus traffic
The Professional Edition provides new features for CAN bus analysis/ simulation and output: CAN traffic recordings (ASCII files) can be output as traffic signals. Specific buttons in the display tab sheet allow to switch between decimal and hexadecimal data view, easily. Another button serves to switch between CAN ID (trace) view and logging view. In logging view, all incoming CAN messages are listed in the table in chronological order. The number of logging entries is custom configurable, the maximum number of records is 2,000 entries. Current messages are stored and can be exported in ASCII file format for analysis or output using the CAN traffic simulator.

The new background color coding indicates the rate with which bytes are changing. Fast changing bytes are indicated by gray background color, slowly changing bytes are indicated by dark blue color. This feature creates a clear layout of signal structure in CAN bus analysis.

Editing data records
The new IPEmotion 2014 R2 version provides the feature to edit channel properties and data records. Data that can be edited include channel description, measuring unit, min/max scaling and the number of decimal places. Changes to the data records and channel properties are stored in a separate file when exported.

Data export
New features in CSV and Excel export: Decimal places are exported as defined on channel configuration. Also, saved V-TAB scalings can be included in the CSV export. For DIAdem export, now the storage format of the original data is considered. Data stored in UInt8-, UInt16-, UInt32-, UInt64-, Int8-, Int16-, Int32-, Int64- or Float format can be exported from IPEmotion in the same format.

IPEmotion App export
The IPEmotion App configuration has been optimized and adapted to IPEhub2 and M-LOG + COMgate measuring systems. The export menu navigation has been redesigned and features additional settings. For IPEhub2 applications, CAN interfaces are available for export. For M-LOG and COMgate data logger applications, app export based on XCP configuration is provided.

IPEhub2 System Overview 
IPEhub2 operates as a CAN-to-WiFi gateway with storage medium: 2 CAN bus streams (from either M-CAN bus or vehicle bus) are converted to encrypted WiFi data and streamed wirelessly to a tablet with installed IPEmotion App. IPEhub2 device name (SSID Service Set Identifier) and the WiFi password are custom selectable. The measurement configuration including display instruments of various view pages of the IPEmotion App is initially created by the IPEmotion data acquisition software. This app configuration is exported to the tablet so the measurement can directly be started.  Users can adjust data display settings directly through the IPEmotion App, at any time. Parallel to wireless data transfer, traffic data are stored on the FIFO of the SD card included in IPEhub2. The IPEhub2 module supports IP54 protection class and uses a gold anodized aluminum enclosure of 106 mm x 43 mm x 62 mm (W x H x D) in modern M2 design. A supply voltage in the range of 9VDC to 36VDC is required. The power input is typically 4.0 watts.

COMgate
COMgate is a communication gateway for IPETRONIK data loggers which transfers data via WLAN based on the WiFi standard 802.11 a/b/g, or via GSM/GPRS/3G with a suitable modem. Connection to the network is automatic and can be activated via the DHCP protocol. Most common security protocols are supported (SSH, SSH2, VPN, IPsec, RADIUS Server, WPA, WEP, WPA2, etc.). In the event of temporary malfunctions or connection breakdowns, COMgate offers a fallback mechanism that automatically buffers data in the logger and repeats transmission at a lower transmission rate. The COMgate enclosure in the typical golden IPETRONIK design uses dimensions of 160 mm x 120 mm x 26.5 mm (W x H x D) and supports IP54 protection class.

IPETRONIK celebrates its 25th anniversary and inaugurates a new production and administration building

IPETRONIK, an industry leader in the design, development and manufacturing of mobile measurement technologies, DAQ software, engineering services, and test bench technology for the global automotive market, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and on May 16, inaugurates a new company building across from the headquarter in Baden-Baden, Germany. IPETRONIK has reached another milestone after completing the building within less than eight months (Start of construction works September 09, 2013; topping-out ceremony December 18, 2013). Across from the Technical Center and the company headquarter building (in use since 2010 and 2011 resp.), on the 2,228 m² property a modern two-storey production and administration building was constructed. It has a useful area of about 2,200 m² and was made for 15 - 20 employees.

The new table display element supports CAN message display as traffic data (hexadecimal and decimal) besides common signal measurements. In traffic measurement, users can online view and analyze CAN messages (data frames), as well as related CAN bus information like status frames, remote frames, error frames, statistic frames and transmit frames. Relevant information is displayed in a clearly arranged table in the columns relative time (beginning at measurement start), CAN ID, name of message, message type, data length code (DLC), data content. Import of A2L files – graphical filling level indication
This function relates to the import of description files at ECU signal measurements. Electronic control units can contain several 10,000 signals. Depending on device performance and design only a defined number of DAQ lists are available for data acquisition. The graphical filling level indication allows users to clearly recognize how much capacity has been used up. Further, IPEmotion features an optimization algorithm filling DAQ lists in an optimal way so that the most possible amount of signals can be collected from the ECU.

Map database management
The database management function allows users to efficiently manage custom map data (tiles) of particular regions. Instead of having to store map tiles in one large file, users now can store relevant map sections, reload them and share them with colleagues. In this way, data are more easy to handle. Further, information on covered regions and resolution of map tiles in the database are available.

Table display of several channels
The new table display instrument compactly presents many measurement channels in a table. Compared with alphanumeric instruments, the table instrument allows compact display of many clearly arranged channels. The table view is particularly beneficial for test bench systems or climate applications.

Audio playback
The new audio playback function supports integration of data acquisition from vehicle can bus and measuring modules in combination with acoustic measurements. Acoustic signals, i.e. vehicle sounds, are recorded using a microphone either in combination with a data logger or with IPEmotion and the Sound PlugIn on a PC. Recordings are stored as WAV file. These WAV files can be played back by IPEmotion and users can correlate sounds with other measured signals in order to determine the causes. The major advantage of this solution is that acoustic investigations can now be incorporated into the early phases of vehicle development and manufacturers can analyze noise problems much earlier. Besides the WAV format, data can also be exported in PAK-ATFX format. These file formats can be used for further analysis using specific acoustic evaluation software packets.
